Planter and raised bed FAQs
What do you put in the bottom of a raised garden planter?
The bottom of a raised garden planter should include a layer of organic material such as compost, logs, dry wood, or leaves that will enrich the soil and support plant growth.
How deep should a raised planter box be?
Raised planter boxes should have a depth between eight and 12 inches to ensure the plant root systems can be easily accommodated. This is because the typical root depth is between six and eight inches, and needs plenty of healthy growing room.
What is the difference between a raised bed and a planter box?
While the terms are often used synonymously and do serve a similar purpose, the main difference between a raised bed and a planter box is that raised beds don’t have a base while planter boxes and other ‘containers’ do tend to.
Furthermore, raised beds tend to be significantly larger.
