Had you heard Copper guttering needed soldering? Not with our system!

Blog Featured Image

What no soldering? Ever?

No! AND no special skills are required to install the copper guttering. The clever design makes installation simple – the innovative Infinity Copper rainwater system includes:

  • Push-fit stop-ends – so no need to solder of the end of a run of guttering
  • Gutter Union/Connector with EPMD rubber seal – so no brazing, soldering or messy silicone sealant here either
  • Wraparound outlets – so no brazing or soldering where the gutter meets the downpipe
  • Downpipes and bends have swaged necks, so slot together simply, allowing quick install without the requirement for glue or solder

No soldering, brazing, silicone or rivets are required anywhere in the system.

Some competitors only offer ‘copper coloured’ systems – but there’s more benefits to using Copper for your rainwater system than just great looks!

Why Choose Copper?

  • Eco choice
Copper is sustainable, it is 100% recyclable with most mined copper still in use today, reducing its environmental impact.
  • No special skills are required
No soldering, brazing, silicone or rivets needed to install the Infinity copper guttering system.
  • Aesthetic choice – distinctive appearance
Left to age naturally copper guttering will start to mellow within weeks, changing through various shades of brown and bronze until eventually forming a green / blue patina unique to copper. The time taken for the patina process to start depends on the location of your property, local weather conditions, distance from the sea and other forms of acidic pollution. If you don’t want to wait for the patina finish to develop naturally, a solution can be applied after installation that will age your copper gutter within a few hours. Eventually copper will always go green and we recommend that you do not coat the copper to try and keep it bright. Instead it will continue to look good for years to come enhancing and protecting your property.
  • Great for Rainwater Collection
Water conservation is becoming increasingly popular. Copper acts as an algaecide and fungicide, keeping growths such as moss and lichen to a minimum, therefore keeping gutters clear and excellent for rainwater harvesting. Copper also mildly disinfects the water, which is great for putting on plants as it has a balanced pH and is free from chemicals such as chlorine. Plants actually grow better using the pH balanced and chemical free rainwater collected with copper. You get more suds when washing the car and it makes car and window washing smear-free (the streaks and dots are limescale).
  • 100% natural
Being 100% natural and non-toxic, copper guttering is particularly suited for use in conjunction with a copper roof as a means of rainwater harvesting. Copper is a wholly natural material present in and essential to all plants, animals and humans. Unlike other materials such as lead, copper is non-toxic and does not accumulate in the body. The natural beauty of copper will instantly enhance the aesthetic value of any building complimenting the current trend for the use of natural building materials such as Oak, Stone, Slate, etc.
  • Maintenance free
Copper is one of the most noble metals (see Galvanic Scale illustration). Its durability and resistance to corrosion makes copper guttering particularly suited for use in virtually any atmospheric conditions and in areas that are difficult to access after completion. It is a wonderfully low-maintenance option for guttering systems as it will not require painting or cleaning (if you are happy to allow it to patina with age) other than the removal of debris that may fall into the guttering – ideal where some parts may be difficult or dangerous to reach. A good choice for commercial and Local Government properties where the Health and Safety of facilities maintenance staff needs to be considered.
  • Exceptionally long product life span
Copper protects itself by forming a patina that ensures an exceptionally long product life span of 100+ years and as guttering prevents damage to brickwork and roofs by diverting rainfall from the property once installed.
It is this patina that gives copper its distinctive look as it ages. When supplied new it has a bright and shiny finish, but in a matter of months this transforms to an intensely rich, earthy shade. Over the coming years, depending on the atmospheric and geographical conditions, your copper rainwater system will develop the distinct green patina associated with copper.

It may be a more expensive choice, but its beauty, durability and recycle-ability – reducing environmental impact – makes it the more cost-effective choice as the long-term advantages far outweigh the initial outlay.

Give your home a unique finish that needs virtually no maintenance and will last for generations to come – the long-term value cannot be understated.

What Protects Copper? Oxidisation!

The initially shiny finish will weather from a high sheen through a deeper reddish-brown, which gives it a ‘rustic’ look, to verdigris green. The characteristic of copper to patinate to a beautiful Verdigris actually creates a protective layer over the metal beneath, reducing the speed of corrosion through the metal so that copper can last 50-100 years even in proximity to the sea.

Available to browse and buy online in Half Round Gutter Profile at 115mm & 125mm and 2 outlet diameters: 80mm, 100mm. Round downpipes in 80mm diameter. These stocked items and those listed on website, are available for next day delivery

The complete system includes 90 ° & 135 ° angles; a choice of fascia brackets, top or side fix rafter bracket or rise & fall gutter brackets; downpipe bracket with M10 screw; 60mm offset (link to read more about how to achieve different offsets); 70 ° branch; 70 & 90 ° bends; loose downpipe connectors; long or short heel shoes; fascia bracket angle adjuster; and downpipe reducers, covers and rubber seals (for joining directly to drainage pipes or other plastic systems).

Other sizes and non-stocked items are available within 7-10 days i.e. 150mm/190mm guttering; 100mm/120mmm/150mm diameter downpipes; 135 ° angles; a copper rainwater diverter instead of a Universal plastic diverter.

Stainless steel screws can be used (copper and stainless steel sit close together at the furthest end of the electronegative spectrum)

“Galvanic Corrosion is an electrochemical process which occurs when dissimilar metals are in contact with each other in the presence of an electrolyte – rain water and salt water make especially good electrolytes. Using metals close together on the scale reduces the prevalence of bimetallic corrosion.

Dissimilar metals for example: Aluminium rainwater systems should not be used with copper roofing. When rainwater from the roof makes contact with the uninsulated aluminium the risk for galvanic corrosion to occur is high because of the copper ions in the water. The closer the galvanic potentials are, the less corrosion that will occur.

Also metal rainwater systems are at risk in contact with some no-metallic materials such as cedar or birch cladding – many woods contain volatile alcohols, and oils that have a solvent action on some protective coatings applied to metal –  Iron and uncoated steel are much more susceptible to the corrosive influence of these woods than aluminium, copper or brass, for example.

The size of the surface area in contact make a difference to the risk of corrosion. A thick layer of paint or a rubber washer in between can reduce the risk.”

Stunning hopper design, unique to the copper system:

Hoppers improve the efficiency of guttering increasing the volume of rainwater through downpipes by 66%. They are also an added stylish feature for your home through their ornate decoration.
