Traditional cast iron products are proven to be versatile, durable and reliable. These sustainable products continue to meet the changing demands of modern industry. Hargreaves in Halifax, Yorkshire, have been producing these traditional cast iron products for over 100 years. Their skilled craftsmen have on average over 19 years experience with iron castings. Antony Gormley, renowned British sculptor famed for the Angel of the North has been a customer of the foundry since the early 90’s.

Cast Iron Sustainability

Cast iron can be recycled indefinitely without any decline in its properties. Everything Hargreaves Foundry make is from recycled scrap iron. A mixture of used car parts, construction waste and foundry returns. Foundries have always recycled scrap iron whenever possible. It is important to stress that this is genuine recycling, not down-cycling where products can be re-used but have inferior properties compared to their original usage.

Properly maintained cast iron products will last the life of a building. Research has shown that the whole life costs of cast iron over a 100 year life cycle is only 35% of aluminium or PVC, despite the higher initial outlay.

Cast Iron Tradition

Cast Iron gutters have a low noise operation and are fire resistance. Hargreaves’ are manufactured to BS460.

The Deep half round profile is a larger version of the more traditional half round pattern. A deeper profile means increased flow rates, which helps keep water in the gutter not overflowing in a heavy downpour.

It is available in two profile sizes: 100 x 75mm (4″x3″) and 125 x 75mm (5″x3″)

And in the standard greyzinc phosphate primer finish for final painting on site (Note: we strongly recommend all products are painted prior to installation to ensure adequate coating on all surfaces. This will reduce long term maintenance) or finished in a black semigloss ‘ready to fix’ product, with no further painting on site. It is also available in a comprehensive range of BS and RAL colours (price on application and a longer leadtimes apply). The factory applied coating means a clean, dust free environment without interruption or delay caused by weather and temperature, further reducing labour time on site.

The in-house paint coating is formulated to have a life expectancy of 10 years minimum when subject to normal weather conditions and rectification of any impact damage or surface scuffing during and after installation.

Why choose the Deep Half-round?

The guttering profile you should choose depends on the type of project you undertake, the building specifications and also the environmental conditions of the location of the project

For most houses a standard half round gutter will do the job, but if you have a large or steep roof, or live in an area with frequent heavy rainfall, then the Deep Half-round profile gutters will be the right choice for you.

Despite having a similar width, Deep Half-round profile system can carry considerably more water volume than a standard half-round system can.
