Q. What is the life expectancy aluminium?
A. Up to 40 years in mill (non coated) finish, providing the system is well maintained.
Q: Can I use Cast Iron and Aluminium together?
A: Yes; However if the two metals come into contact with each other this will cause corrosion; however preventative measures can be taken, please contact our technical support team on 0844 414 22 66 for further advice.
Q: How often should I maintain my Aluminium rainwater system?
A: You should maintain your system not less than twice a year, preferably at the beginning of autumn and again in the spring by cleaning out any rainwater heads, checking that joints and fixings are secure and checking that all gutters and downpipes are free from debris.
Q: What is the difference between the mill and powder coated finishes?
A: Mill finish is Aluminium in its natural state after it comes out of production, powder coating is a coating process applied at a later stage and is designed to further protect your system. This coating is available in any RASL or BS colour.
Q: Won’t my Aluminium system corrode if I don’t have it powder coated?
A: No; Aluminium is a non corrosive metal, however natural oxidisation will occur and this helps further to protect the metal, it is quite common for architects to specify non coated systems to make a feature of the oxidised system.
Q: I have purchased a mill finish system, can I paint it?

Q. What European or British standards cover aluminium rainwater?
A. BS2997:1958 (1980)
Q. Can special items be manufactured for aluminium rainwater at my request?
A. Yes providing all details i.e. dimensions/templates are supplied
Q. How will I know the system I choose will be able to cope with the flow of water from my roof?
A. Rainclear, in conjunction with our manufacturers' can provide a full design service, we will however require a full roof drawing for this to be carried out.
Q: Can you fit my system for me?
A: Rainclear Systems only supply systems; however we would be happy to help you find a reputable installer.
Q. What should I use to seal the joints on my Aluminium rainwater system?
A. We recommend Dow Corning 791 silicone sealant and aluminium nuts, bolts & washers which are available to buy online.
